(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Leader of 'Kony' video group to focus on healthSAN DIEGO (AP) _ Jason Russell may be the most public face of Invisible Children, the nonprofit group he co-founded to stop African war atrocities. He narrates a 30-minute video on warlord Joseph Kony that went viral on the Internet. Less than two weeks after the video's smashing success, Invisible Children is facing the prospect of carrying on without Russell _ at least for a while. He was briefly detained by police and hospitalized after witnesses saw him running through streets in his underwear, screaming and banging his fists on the pavement.
Artist admits to shortcuts in show about AppleCHICAGO (AP) _ An artist admitted Friday to taking shortcuts in crafting an often harrowing tale about Apple Inc.'s operations in China after the veracity of his one-man theatrical show was challenged by a public radio program that had based a broadcast on his work. But writer Mike Daisey said he stands by his monologue and called what he does theater, and not journalism.
AT&T scotches appeal, pays small-claims litigantNEW YORK (AP) _ AT&T Inc. on Friday gave up on appealing an $850 award won by an iPhone user in small claims court, and sent him a check. Matt Spaccarelli, of Simi Valley, Calif., had sued the phone company because it was slowing down the data service on his phone. Spaccarelli has an "unlimited data" plan, but as of this fall, AT&T had begun slowing download speeds for these subscribers if they use more than a certain amount of data in a month.
Fans, entrepreneurs among first buyers of new iPadMADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Apple's latest iPad drew the customary lines of die-hard fans looking to be first and entrepreneurs looking to make a quick profit. Many buyers lined up for hours, and in some cases overnight, as the tablet computer went on sale in the U.S. and nine other countries. They did so even though Apple started accepting online orders a week ago.
Feds say 19 arrested in 9 states in ID theft ringLAS VEGAS (AP) _ Nineteen people were arrested in Nevada and eight other states in a Las Vegas-based identity theft and trafficking ring that a federal prosecutor characterized as a sophisticated racketeering organization involving 50 people nationwide. The scheme revolved around the buying and selling of pilfered debit and credit card information on an Internet site called "Carder.su," U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden said Friday in Las Vegas.
Is Facebook part of your estate? New laws debatedLINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ When Karen Williams' son died in a motorcycle crash, the Oregon woman turned to his Facebook account in hopes of learning more about the young man she had lost. Williams found his password and emailed the company, asking administrators to maintain 22-year-old Loren Williams' account so she could pore through his posts and comments by his friends. But within two hours, she said, Facebook changed the password, blocking her efforts.
Sprint ends deal with LightSquaredOVERLAND PARK, Kan. (AP) _ Wireless carrier Sprint Nextel Corp. ended its spectrum hosting agreement with start-up LightSquared, whose network looks doomed because regulators say it interferes with GPS navigation devices. Sprint is returning $65 million in prepayments to LightSquared.
Groupon amends practices after UK probeLONDON (AP) _ A British regulator says online deals site Groupon will change the way it markets its products after drawing criticism from consumers. The Office of Fair Trading said Friday that Groupon had agreed to ensure that original prices are accurately quoted, that it will assess merchants' ability to deliver goods in a reasonable time and that all limitations are clearly displayed on the same screen as the offer.
Cisco to buy video tech company NDS for about $4BNEW YORK (AP) _ Cisco Systems Inc. is buying digital video technology company NDS Group Ltd. to enhance the range of products it sells to pay-TV providers and to expand in emerging markets. The roughly $4 billion deal would be Cisco's first major acquisition since it paid $3.4 billion for Norwegian teleconferencing company Tandberg in April 2010.
Yahoo board battle may begin within the next weekSAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ A potentially nasty battle to reshape Yahoo's board of directors will begin within the next week unless the troubled Internet company submits to the demands of a major shareholder. Third Point LLC, a hedge fund that owns a 5.8 percent stake in Yahoo, issued its ultimatum in a letter Wednesday to company CEO Scott Thompson.
