BRIEF: Internet traffic volume obtained by Azerbaijan significantly increases

Apr 10, 2012 (Trend News Agency - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The traffic volume coming to Azerbaijan via the Azerbaijani Delta Telecom's infrastructure has reached 180 Gbit / s, Delta Telecom technical director Rahid Alakbarli told Trend today.

As of early 2012, the traffic volume delivered to Azerbaijan via Delta Telecom infrastructure, amounted to 110 Gbit / s.

He added that about 50 percent of total traffic volume imported into the country is used, while the rest part has not been loaded yet. It is in reserve to increase the stability of the AzNET segment from external factors.

"The data transmission capacity will be more increased in the nearest future," he said.

He told Trend previously that copper cables are not physically able to withstand the pressure if every provider launches traffic for its users without any restrictions. That is why, providers should look closely to the possibilities of new technologies based on fiber-optic lines. There will be major changes in this direction in Azerbaijan for the next two years. Many buildings will be connected to the cable lines.
