Senetas Appoints US-based Harbenaux Inc - Moves to Secure Critical National Infrastructure Networks

(PR Web Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (PRWEB) April 19, 2012 Senetas Corporation Limited (ASX:SEN) today announced the appointment of a new US-based reseller, Harbenaux Inc. which will specialise in securing sensitive networks that are critical to national infrastructure using Senetas encryption technology.

With United States rolling out a National Infrastructure Protection Plan (NIPP) in 2009 to enhance protection and resiliency in critical infrastructure, Harbenaux will propose security solutions to government agencies and private facilities in the oil and gas, power generation (including nuclear and fossil fuels, transmission and distribution), pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage industry and other general process and control plant sites.

Harbenaux Inc, established in Maryland, USA in 1992 specialises in fibre optics and the electrical equipment supply and construction sector.

Senetas CEO, John DuBois said Harbenaux was a good fit for Senetas with its ability to protect critical infrastructure at high speed and to secure the data with little or no latency.

“Given the ability of cyber criminals to penetrate global communications systems running on fibre optic cable, attacks on critical infrastructure networks, often employing remotely managed SCADA devices are becoming more frequent,” Mr DuBois said Mr DuBois noted that as part of the NIPP, the Department of Homeland Security had identified that: “a spectrum of malicious actors routinely conducts attacks against the cyber infrastructure using cyber-attack tools. Because of the interconnected nature of the cyber infra¬structure, these attacks could spread quickly and have a debilitating effect”.

The US NIPP further warned that “nation-states are realizing that hacking tools, methods, and tactics offer asymmetric opportunities for espionage, countering military force, and economic and geopolitical advantages. These threat vectors, combined with insider threat and a range of other pervasive cyber threats to critical infrastructure, highlight the need for public, private, academic, and international entities to collaborate and enhance cybersecurity awareness and preparedness efforts…” Senetas technology, proved over more than a decade, is currently in use by governments, military, law enforcement and corporate networks worldwide. It employs AES 256 bit algorithms and high speed public and private key exchange technology to verify and then secure everything transmitted over the information network. In the event that a hacker intercepts the communications to extract or to inject data, all information is encrypted and unusable, therefore protecting against threats to data integrity of high speed information networks, government systems, or the relatively popular and simple SCADA devices controlling critical infrastructure and resource networks.

Harbenaux’s president Joseph Flatau said: “Senetas is recognised worldwide as the leader in data encryption with installations in some very high concern areas.

“We are pleased to become a partner with them and offer this level of data encryption security to our industrial customer base here in the US. Our goal is to prevent data security incidents from occurring by offering the world’s best security products and services to our clients,” Mr Flatau said About Senetas Senetas Corporation Limited (ASX Code: SEN) is an Australian public company and is the world’s leading developer and supplier of high speed network encryption hardware products. Its encryptors are certified to the highest international government security standards (FIPS 140-2 Level 3 and Common Criteria EAL4+) with product under evaluation for certification to the UK’s CAPS standard.

From its Melbourne, Australia headquarters Senetas develops security solutions to suit all network topologies, including Layer 2: Ethernet, Fibre Channel, ATM, Link, SONET; Layer 3 – IPSec; plus the world’s first hybrid Quantum encryption platform, now deployed on four continents.

Senetas won a patent for its multiprotocol encryptor and has patent pending on a newly-developed multicast encryptor. Multicast is used for a variety of applications including video streaming, conferencing and distribution of business critical data. It is fault tolerant, with an ability to survive network outages and adapt automatically to topology changes.

Senetas commercial encryption technology is cleared for use up to “restricted” level, and the company is now developing a High Assurance encryptor to secure critical communications in the “secret” networks of the Australian Government and its closest allies. Senetas is represented either directly or through reseller channels in more than 40 countries. Customers include Government, military, law enforcement agencies and leading financial institutions in Australia, USA, Middle East, Asia, and Europe.
