LEC debuts video at Crooked I
Nov 01, 2012 (Erie Times-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- After making a splash with "My Home" -- its salute to Erie, which blew up on YouTube -- Lower Eastside Connection will debut its new video on Saturday at the Crooked I.
This one is for positivity anthem "Daylight," and Jonny Evans says the group definitely upped the ante. The LEC shot the video with Howard Glover of Three Gloves Productions at several locations, including Wintergreen Gorge, a historic mansion, and with about 300 fans on Parade and French streets.
"It's not like I planned the first video to smash the way it did, but my plan was for the first video to get attention. And then, (with) the second, to more represent who we are once people have already looked at us," he said.
"I think this song is a better artistic expression of what we're about and what we're doing," added Keithi Golembiewski.
Evans said Glover built a special crane to help capture some spectacular shots at the gorge.
"He put the camera up about 10 feet. So, a lot of the shots, all you see is us with the valley behind us. It looks just awesome. He used some pretty expensive lenses to do the work." The LEC also shot several scenes at a West 21st Street home that was built in 1857 and is on the national historic registry.
"It has a 14-foot ceiling," Evans said. "We redid one room, painted the walls and ceiling, and shot part of the video there, as well as in the basement." Shooting there was no problem; it's where Dan Head, the band's newest member, lives. Pat Troester is in grad school at the University of Akron, but he may return for the video party.
C. Brown will open Saturday's show. The LEC follows with an hour set that will culminate with the "Daylight" premiere.
It should be on YouTube before the weekend's over.
"I have big expectations for this video," Evans said. "I'm hoping, and I think, it will blow 'My Home' out of the water. If it doesn't, I'll be disappointed." NatasK will follow the LEC's set.
Crooked I also has a big show on Friday: Philadelphia's Brothers Past, an electro-rock band with a strong sense of song craft ("Boy" is amazing.) But elements of dubstep and techno also infiltrate their genre-bending sound. "Everything Must Go," their latest CD, was released this past summer on SCI Fidelity, the home of Umphrey's McGee, Disco Biscuits and more.
BP played Michigan's Electric Forest Festival in July, which also featured Girl Talk, Bass Nectar and String Cheese Incident. In 2006, they played Bonnaroo's main stage. New York Press dubbed them "the square-jawed, bastard child of Pink Floyd with a gigantic stage show." Smackdab will open.
Taylor Swift's world tour for "Red" includes two area dates: April 25 in Cleveland, at a venue to be announced, and July 6 at Pittsburgh's Heinz Field. Ed Sheeran will open. The Pittsburgh show goes on sale Nov. 16 at Ticketmaster.
Swift will also perform at "The Grammy Nominations Concert Live" on WSEE on Dec. 5, along with Luke Bryan, Maroon 5 and LL Cool J.
Billboard reported Wednesday that "Red" sold 1.2 million copies its first week, the highest for any album in a decade.
