KAMO Power Leverages Smart Grid Control Network to Generate New High-Value Services With BTI Systems
(Marketwire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OTTAWA and BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwire) -- 11/08/12 -- BTI Systems, the global leader redefining service delivery for metro network operators, today announced that KAMO Electric Cooperative, Inc. (KAMO Power) has selected BTI's Mobile Backhaul, Carrier Ethernet Business Services, Cloud Data Center Connectivity and Metro Packet Optical Networking Solutions to rapidly deliver new services to its service provider, business and regional customers.
According to Pike Research, a part of Navigant's Energy Practice, the total market for Smart Grid software and related IT services is expected to reach $4.3 billion in 2012 and exceed $8.6 billion by 2017. Based on these dynamics, utility companies are enhancing their networks to support a variety of new Smart Grid elements from smart meters to video surveillance systems and grid optimization solutions. With a Smart Grid-enabled network, utilities can ensure more efficient, reliable power delivery and meet evolving regulatory requirements, while building a more flexible and scalable infrastructure to deliver new high-value services and gain competitive advantage.
Headquartered in Vinita, Oklahoma, KAMO Power is a Generation and Transmission cooperative serving 17 member distribution cooperatives throughout northeast Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. KAMO provides safe, low-cost, reliable power through its high voltage transmission network, qualified and dedicated personnel, effective system operations, maintenance and planning, and long-term rate stability.
KAMO is moving aggressively to capitalize on the business opportunities afforded by their Smart Grid control network fiber assets. The utility company needed a telecommunications technology partner to help it architect a high-performance network capable of delivering offerings including mobile backhaul, Ethernet business and wavelength services. KAMO chose BTI because the Company's solutions are easy-to-deploy, can be seamlessly integrated into existing network infrastructure, and provide the foundation for current network demands and future expansion.
"BTI offers scalable, reliable, cost-effective, power- and space-efficient solutions backed by service and support which are unequalled in the industry," said Walter Kenyon, CTO at KAMO Power. "We welcome a long-term partnership with BTI as we expand our portfolio to better service current and future customers' energy and business networking demands." The cornerstone of the BTI Solutions Suite is the proNX Service Manager, a modular, flexible software solution that integrates seamlessly into any operating environment. With a one-click, intuitive and feature-rich GUI, it is designed for rapid scaling across access, aggregation and core network infrastructure. Providing end-to-end network visibility, the proNX Service Manager helps expedite service provisioning, simplify monitoring and management, and speed time to revenue.
Complementing the proNX Service Manager is the BTI 7000 Series packet optical platform. Compact, modular and easy-to-use, the MEF-certified BTI 7000 Series provides tremendous densities and capacity in a single integrated system. Offering a true pay-as-you-grow approach, the BTI 7000 Series makes it easy for service and energy providers, and utility companies to realize new business opportunities.
"KAMO is the quintessential next-generation utility company -- leveraging existing fiber assets to accommodate increased traffic demands, improve performance and optimize this new market opportunity," said Steve Waszak, President and CEO of BTI. "By transitioning to a packet optical-based network with BTI, KAMO will achieve significant competitive advantage while minimizing impacts on network planning and operations and containing capital expenditures. We look forward to continuing to work with KAMO as they expand their service offerings and unlock new business opportunities." About BTI SystemsBTI Systems is the innovative networking company delivering solutions that empower service and content providers to capitalize on the increasing demand for bandwidth driven by game-changing and long-term trends in mobility, video and cloud services.
