U.S. Patents Awarded to Inventors in Maryland (Nov. 29)

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Targeted News Service Targeted News Service ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 29 -- The following federal patents were awarded to inventors in Maryland.

*** Sprint Spectrum Assigned Patent for Method and System for Remotely Accessing and Troubleshooting Cellular Wireless Communication Devices ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 29 -- Sprint Spectrum, Overland Park, Kan., has been assigned a patent (8,320,904) developed by Frank Celentano, Damascus, Md., and Alex Shusterman, Vienna, Va., for a "method and system for remotely accessing and troubleshooting cellular wireless communication devices." The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A method and system for remote troubleshooting of a wireless communication device, such as a cell phone. The cell phone is programmed with server logic, such as a Telnet server application and an FTP server application. A computer at a customer service center for instance is programmed with client logic, such as a Telnet client application and an FTP client application. When a customer service representative receives a call reporting trouble with the cell phone, the representative may conveniently operate the client logic on the computer to log into the cell phone server logic, via a packet-switched network such as the Internet and via a wireless access network (and thus an air interface) serving the cell phone. Through that connection, the customer service representative can thereby cause the cell phone to perform various performance evaluations and can download the evaluation results to conveniently facilitate troubleshooting of the cell phone trouble." The patent application was filed on April 3, 2007 (11/695,713). The full-text of the patent can be found at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=8,320,904&OS=8,320,904&RS=8,320,904 Written by Satyaban Rath; edited by Hemanta Panigrahi.

*** QUALCOMM Assigned Patent for Opportunistic Uplink Scheduling ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 29 -- QUALCOMM, San Diego, has been assigned a patent (8,320,928) developed by five co-inventors for an opportunistic uplink scheduling. The co-inventors are Xinzhou Wu, Monmouth Junction, N.J., Sundeep Rangan, Jersey City, Calif., Prashanth Hande, Somerset, N.J., Arnab Das, Bethesda, Md., and Junyi Li, Chester, N.J.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate scheduling uplink transmissions. For instance, a time sharing scheme can be utilized such that differing mobile devices can be scheduled to transmit during differing time slots; however, it is also contemplated that a static scheme can be employed. Pursuant to an illustration, an interference budget can be combined with a time varying weighting factor associated with a base station; the weighting factor can be predefined and/or adaptively adjusted (e.g., based upon a load balancing mechanism). Moreover, the weighted interference budget can be leveraged for selecting mobile devices for uplink transmission (e.g., based at least in part upon path loss ratios of the mobile devices). Further, disparate interference budgets can be utilized by differing channels of a sector at a particular time. Also, for example, a base station can assign a loading factor to be utilized by wireless terminal(s) for generating channel quality report(s)." The patent application was filed on Aug. 26, 2011 (13/218,647). The full-text of the patent can be found at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=8,320,928&OS=8,320,928&RS=8,320,928 Written by Satyaban Rath; edited by Hemanta Panigrahi.

*** Invensys Systems Assigned Patent ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 29 -- Invensys Systems, Foxboro, Mass., has been assigned a patent (8,321,045) developed by five co-inventors for a "validating information within production event messages for recording non-trending production data and events." The co-inventors are Steven M. Weinrich, York, Pa., James C. Long, York, Pa., Eric P. Gove, Dallastown, Pa., Donald Tunnell, Perkiomenville, Pa., and George E. Bachman, Falston, Md.

The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A production information reporting/recording system is disclosed herein including a number of features to ensure efficient, flexible and reliable recording of production data in a manufacturing system. Such features include validating the content of event messages to ensure compliance of event report information with a standard. The system also supports caching IDs associated with particular aspects of an event message (e.g., a production request, a process segment) as well as a unique ID corresponding to the ID assigned by the production event database to reduce the need to access the database when assigning unique database IDs to received events. The production event messaging system also supports both asynchronous and synchronous transactional messaging between the sources of events and the production database service. Furthermore, the system supports including extensions to a base production message schema through the inclusion of metadata that designates a particular production server to parse and apply/store the extension information." The patent application was filed on April 25, 2006 (11/412,158). The full-text of the patent can be found at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-bool.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=PTXT&s1=8,321,045&OS=8,321,045&RS=8,321,045 Written by Satyaban Rath; edited by Hemanta Panigrahi.

*** Battlefield Telecommunications Systems Assigned Patent ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 29 -- Battlefield Telecommunications Systems, Columbia, Md., has been assigned a patent (8,320,883) developed by Alexander C. Watson, Severn, Md., and Sean L. Lane, Sykesville, Md., for a "method to dynamically authenticate and control mobile devices." The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "The present invention provides a secure, dynamic and customizable system and method for authenticating a mobile device in a wireless network, in accordance with the security policies associated with the wireless network. The system and method involve a trusted authentication and device management application stored on the SIM card of the mobile device in a memory space that is protected and only accessible by the network operator. Moreover, authentication is based, at least in part, on information that relates to the environment of the mobile device, the information being available to the authentication application through the operating system of the mobile device." The patent application was filed on Dec. 14, 2010 (12/967,785). The full-text of the patent can be found at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=83,20,883.PN.&OS=PN/83,20,883&RS=PN/83,20,883 Written by Kusum Sangma; edited by Anand Kumar.
