China clarifies VAT reform policy on taxable services

BEIJING, Dec 06, 2012 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The Chinese authorities have released a notice clarifying the pilot value-added tax (VAT) reform policy on ta xable services in the transportation industry and some modern service industries.

The notice, released by the Ministry of Finance and the State Admin istration of Taxation, said for the transportation industry and some m odern service industries, architectural drawing verification services, environment assessment services, and medical negligence assessment se rvice would be levied VAT as authentication services; bookkeeping agen cy services, printing services, and conference organization services w ould be levied VAT as consulting, design and conferences and expo serv ices respectively.

Harbor facility security fees, Internet operating services, managem ent fees charged by taxi companies would be levied VAT as harbor servi ces, information system services, and land transportation services res pectively.

The notice meanwhile points out those trial taxpayers who are provi ding transportation services between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao will be applied zero tariffs for VAT.

The notice came into effect on December 1, 2012.
