CableOrganizer.com (News - Alert) has deployed comprehensive disaster prevention as well as a disaster recovery plan to ensure it serves consumers 24/7/365 and also has suitable measures in place to remain up and running to the greatest extent possible when adversity strikes.
The e-commerce company sees this deployment as its preparation for the inevitable operational downtime related to hurricanes and other natural disasters as well as unforeseen brown and black outs common in its region.
CableOrganizer.com is an eTailer of electrical, telecom/datacom/networking, home theater, cable and wire management products. Its operation is largely IT system-driven. In the past, the company has been affected by hurricanes, according to company officials.
“Each year, prior to the month of June when hurricane season commences, we review our disaster prevention procedures to ensure readiness in the event that a tropical storm or a hurricane heads our way,” said Nicolas Dubus, director for IT at CableOrganizer.com.
Dubus said that rather than a simple checklist and seasonal preparatory efforts, the company reviews and maintains disaster prevention and recovery plans for all levels of the operation year-round to best assure it’s truly prepared.
Additionally, CableOrganizer.com has implemented multiple routine procedures, including surge protectors, UPS maintenance and data backup. Routinely, the company tests and maintains the UPS surge protectors for all of its computers and server banks. And, it replaces the UPS units for each desktop computer every two years and servers every three to five years, said company officials.
In addition to subscribing to an integrated online backup for PCs and servers, iBackup, the company has scheduled and automated daily backups of its most important documents and databases.
Also, the company purchased a Quantum (News - Alert) tape library with LTO 5 tapes to run hourly, daily and weekly data backups with Symantec Backup Exec software. Moreover, the company’s shared folders are continuously backed up from its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale to its co-location site at Host.net (News - Alert), located in nearby Boca Raton.
Company officials said that with the help of Carbonite Online Backup Pro system, all company e-mails and Outlook PST files have been backed up. The company also has multiple Internet connections available, load balanced with Peplink -- a Multi Wan Internet load-balancing router. Moreover, it has purchased all the necessary equipments for removing and remounting the satellite on the roof of its location.
Company officials said that CableOrganizer.com has two satellite phones from GMPCS (News - Alert), which enables it to maintain contact with the owners of the company when land lines and cell reception are unavailable. In addition to GlobalResponse’s technical backup, there is also a backup customer support group, which takes phone calls on CableOrganizer.com’s behalf 24/7.
This year in August, CableOrganizer.com announced that it achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification (Certificate No: FS 580559) through Quality Management Systems registrar BSI.
