HP Releases Network Management, Storage Solutions to Help SMBs Embrace Mobile Use

Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert) recently introduced a handful of new products and services designed to help small and midsize businesses (SMBs) simplify their IT infrastructures to accelerate business by way of mobile devices. According to the company, while the use of mobile devices in the workplace allows for remote access to business and process management applications, many SMBs have static and fragmented IT infrastructures not conducive to responding to the infrastructure demands caused by mobile use.

In order to alleviate this, HP has expanded its HP Converged  Infrastructure portfolio with new storage and network solutions that improve employee productivity via secure access from mobile devices to business applications and data. Furthermore, the company is offering financing and training programs to address the end-to-end mobility challenges typically faced by SMBs by helping them acquire the resources necessary to boost business responsiveness.

“Mobility will soon be a normal part of every SMB workplace, as it moves from being used primarily for email to supporting critical business applications such as CRM and sales inventory,” said Robert Anderson, research VP at Gartner (News - Alert), in a statement. “Small and midsize businesses must align and modernize their existing IT capabilities to take advantage of the business benefits and competitive differentiation mobility brings.”

The products and services offered by HP include storage services — HP StoreVirtual Storage and HP StoreEasy Storage — meant to support data growth typical of mobile use, HP Financial Services, which enables qualified SMBs to obtain HP solutions without payment for 90 days, and of course, network management services.

The HP M220 Series Access Point (News - Alert) simplifies network management and maintenance through increased automation and centralization. It actually streamlines network management with clustering technology that allows for deployment of up to 10 network access points as a single entity, while improving network security by detecting and removing rogue access points.

In other news, it appears HP is content to continue playing a supporting role in the mobile market as the company's CEO, Meg Whitman, recently laid rumors to rest that it was planning to release mobile phones in the next year.
