TMCnet Network Management Week in Review

Network management is important to companies because businesses rely heavily on the network to perform communications and process-related tasks. Network management tools can ensure a secure and successful network by streamlining resources for effectiveness. Each week we cover the top industry news and trends, here are the top stories this week.

ADTRAN (News - Alert) Inc., a provider of cloud, virtual and enterprise communications solutions, just proudly announced that its virtual wireless local area network (vWLAN) solution – Bluesocket – just received a set of industry awards for its innovation in developing this product, helping customers achieve complete control of their wireless networks intertwined with their wireline LANs.

Global optical networking (ON (News - Alert)) equipment spending continued to decline for the third consecutive quarter in 2012 versus 2011, according to the technology analyst and research firm Ovum (News - Alert). As per Ovum’s study, operators in troubled economies are running networks to capacity in an effort to delay network projects and defer spending. Although, the research firm expects marginal increase in the fourth quarter, the overall market performance means growth over 2012 will remain flat.

Also this week, The Gores Group, a global investment firm focusing on acquiring controlled interests in growing and mature businesses, recently announced that it acquired U.K. wireless services firm, DMN Ltd. Gores Group’s new Small Capitalization Partners fund acquired the company in partnership with David Matton.

SolarWinds recently announced the upcoming release of the latest version of its IP Address Manager (IPAM). The new version has been designed to include a number of feature enhancements capable of providing IT professionals with new choice within the DDI market. The management of IP infrastructure is essential to ensuring network availability and performance in light of BYOD devices proliferation on the network and the shift to IPv6 – this presents a number of challenges for IT professionals.

WebNMS, a division of Zoho (News - Alert) Corp, has launched an ATM Site Manager developed from Chennai for the global banking industry. The manager, which is built on the WebNMS Framework, will remotely monitor passive infrastructure such as air conditioners, camera, lighting systems, battery banks, door lock systems, etc., across thousands of ATM sites and will generate actionable information in real-time.
