GENView Manager Offers a Single, Unified Interface for Network Management

Unified network management makes common network functions manageable from a single console, offering benefits such as simplified network deployment and management, increased service availability, reliability and operational efficiency and reduced OPEX (News - Alert).

GENBAND’s GENView Manager is the one-stop shop for the management of GENBAND’s (News - Alert) network elements and provides fault, performance and configuration management as well as a central security service for authentication and authorization.   The management application is part of GENView, a unified operation, administration, maintenance and provisioning system for GENBAND’s portfolio of network elements. GENBAND is a developer of IMS and cloud communications solutions, enabling service providers and enterprises around the world to evolve communications networks through IP and rich communications innovation. GENBAND offers applications and software solutions that support multimedia voice, data and video communications.

The GENView Manager provides one standard method to manage all regular maintenance activities across all the network elements, such as fault handling, patches, upgrades and backup/restore, from a unified set of graphical user interfaces that have a familiar look and feel and require less training, less time to use and less operational costs.

It delivers the capabilities required for operations/craft-persons to manage the network elements and applications and also provides the necessary interfaces to view and manage the networks elements’ faults, performance data, security and system configurations. The main capabilities of the GENView Manager are fault management, performance management, configuration management and authentication, authorization and auditing (AAA).

A major player in GENView Manager’s success is the platform in which it is built on. The WebNMS framework is an Element Management System (EMS) and Network Management System (NMS) framework provider, enabling network equipment providers and service providers to cost-effectively build highly customizable EMS/NMS solutions that can dramatically cut development times while meeting carrier-grade network requirements.

One of the benefits the WebNMS framework offers is the high level of customization through XML configuration files and open APIs to tailor management applications quickly. GENBAND takes advantage of this customization, and WebNMS is the underlying technology that GENBAND implements its GENView Manager solution on.

"GENView Manager provides significant savings in terms of time and costs for service providers, both at installation and during the regular maintenance of the network. As an example, it can eliminate approximately 93 percent of the installation steps on GENiUS-based elements,” said Kathy Griffiths, GENView product manager at GENBAND, in a statement.

The solution provides enhanced network security by utilizing secure protocols for information exchange and a central security architecture for user and permission management. Its hardware flexibility allows it to reside on a blade in the GENBAND GENiUS platform, or in a standalone rack mount server, managed from a different location within the service provider’s network.

The GENView Manager can be deployed in a tiered architecture, providing aggregation of GENBAND network elements for scale purposes to meet larger network requirements.
