QuorumSoft Announces the New Citrix XenServer Backup and Disaster Recovery Solution

In keeping with its commitment to deliver unique capabilities that address customers’ real-world backup and disaster recovery challenges, QuorumSoft built on the success of the recent Q- Hybrid solution, the innovative way to perform backups without using XenServer snapshots.

And, it announced a technically rich and new Citrix XenServer backup and disaster recovery solution - Alike v2.6 - the latest in a series of innovative technical advances, which is expected to deliver new local and offsite recovery features that will protect users' valuable information with greater flexibility at a reduced cost.

“Alike v2.6 demonstrates our commitment to delivering unique new capabilities that address our customers’ real-world backup and disaster recovery challenges,” said Phil Baskette, co-founder and CEO at Quorum Software, Inc.

The Alike Offsite vaulting capability in v2.6, which reportedly complements existing Q-Hybrid backup technology, significantly streamlines the process for saving globally deduplicated data to an offsite location for XenServer disaster recovery protection. Improvements to the Offsite vaulting feature will allow managed service providers to better support multi-tenancy environments.

Alike Disk and Memory backup will help to recover running virtual machines and also offer a new way to ensure data integrity. In addition, the Alike Incremental VM restore allows users to go to a specified backup state and the new flexible options make VM restoration tasks faster.

With faster Q-Hybrid backups, strain on storage capacity and networks is greatly reduced. This is expected to translate into an improvement in overall performance.

The new version is expected to be generally available in January 2013.

At the Citrix Synergy (News - Alert) conference, Citrix announced the acquisition of Virtual Computer, provider of enterprise-scale management solutions for client-side virtualization. Citrix will combine the newly-acquired Virtual Computer technology with its market-leading XenClient hypervisor to create the new Citrix XenClient Enterprise edition. The new XenClient Enterprise will combine all the power of the XenClient hypervisor with a rich set of management functionality designed to help enterprise customers manage large fleets of corporate laptops across a distributed enterprise
