ManageEngine Includes Android Device Support in its MDM Software

ManageEngine recently announced that it has further enhanced Desktop Central, its mobile device management (MDM) software, with support for Android (News - Alert) devices. ManageEngine is a specialist provider of enterprise-class IT management tools for addressing real-time support and services needs of an organization.

In a statement, Mathivanan Venkatachalam, director of product management at ManageEngine (News - Alert), said that, “The mobile usage trends will eventually drive sharp increases in demand for enterprise MDM solutions that embrace BYOD while ensuring enterprise data security. The growing Android market and increasing demand for Android support among our customer base encouraged us to add Android support to Desktop Central as quickly as possible.”

Android commands a substantial space within the mobile device market. Market value of Android is based on factors which include its open source platform and its flexible pricing model as well as variety in device types. This has lead to a significant increase in the number of Android device users within an organization, who are requesting for access to corporate data from their personal devices.

Android MDM in Desktop Central includes a number of capabilities such as data wipe, which will make it easy for IT staff to remotely wipe the data from a stolen or misplaced device or completely remove corporate data from the device as soon as an employee exists the company; Mobile application management will allow IT professionals to distribute and manage in-house and Google (News - Alert) Play store apps based on the user’s requirements and also keep tabs on all the apps installed on the mobile device.

Desktop Central will make sure that these applications keep running in the background even if the user is accessing or using other applications. Some of the other capabilities include configuring profile/policy which will enable IT technicians to create polices that control Internet access as a means to secure corporate data, while also effectively disabling certain device features such as camera and Bluetooth. The Default option will run background applications which will allow the enterprise IT team to put into place mandatory applications on the user’s mobile device, which will provide connectivity and increase enterprise policy compliance.
