F5 Networks Acquires LineRate Systems for Use of SDN

Looking to improve the functioning of software-defined data centers, F5 Networks (News - Alert) has acquired LineRate Systems. This acquisition will allow F5 to have access to LineRate’s layer 7+ networking services technology.

The company will also have access to LineRate’s intellectual property and skilled workforce through this acquisition.

Software-defined networking (SDN) is considered a technology that will revolutionize networking in the near future. It allows companies to modify their network as they see fit and eliminates manual errors in network management.

Already, large networking companies have invested a significant chunk of their resources to develop these systems.

LineRate Systems offers layer 7+ network services, still in early stage of development. Since F5 Networks has been working on software defined data centers for a while, its acquisition of LineRate Systems is considered to be important.

The pure software solution provided by LineRate Systems enables the automated deployment of SDN. LineRate’s service makes the deployment of SDN easy and trouble free.

F5 has a vision for application control plane architecture, and its acquisition of LineRate solidifies this vision.

“F5’s vision is to enable application-layer SDN services for software defined data centers, providing our customers with unprecedented automation, orchestration, and control,” said Karl Triebes, EVP of Product Development and CTO at F5. “Extreme scale of applications, infrastructure, and services will be vital to SDN, core to F5, and the key to customers realizing the benefits of software defined data centers. LineRate’s programmable network capabilities and innovations in layer 7 will bolster our efforts to extend F5’s market leadership in these areas.”

Recently, the company also introduced GUARDIAN Professional Services Partner Program.
