Wind River Intros Packet Acceleration Technology, Data Flow Analysis Engine

Wind River (News - Alert), a provider of embedded and mobile software, has launched a patent-pending packet acceleration technology, while adding a new data plane software engine for network traffic flow analysis to the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform.

The new software platform reportedly helps in designing 4G/LTE (News - Alert) wireless applications, firewall solutions, and other equipment that needs scalable packet analysis.

Paul Senyshyn, senior director of communication platforms at Wind River said, “Given the ongoing growth of traffic, the industry is hungry for networking equipment that delivers even greater performance, scalability, and intelligence. With stronger network visibility and intelligence, customers can deliver high quality of service by better analyzing and managing traffic, as well as introduce new services.”

Wind River Intelligent Socket Layer is the new packet acceleration technology that forms part of the Wind River Application Acceleration Engine, which helps handle heavy network traffic or huge volumes of transactions.

This system is particularly optimized to let traffic take a faster path so as to eliminate any modification or porting of existing applications. This allows the Wind River intelligent socket layer to improve throughput by 300 percent for user datagram protocol applications.

The Wind River Flow Analysis Engine comprises software libraries and tools that provide deep visibility into Layers 4-7 traffic flows.

It also includes real-time packet classification, and protocol and application identification.

The categorization of traffic into different flows enables customers to identify and understand the delivery of metadata. The details include type of file download, type of data – e-mail or text – and so on. The visibility gleaned enables companies to deliver application-level insight into their solutions. This lets them manage bandwidth, accelerate traffic and safeguard data against cyber attacks.

Wind River Intelligent Network Platform is optimized for Intel (News - Alert) architecture as well, including the latest Intel Platform for Communications Infrastructure. This is integrated with the Intel Data Plane Development Kit.

Recently, Qosmos, a specialist in embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI), announced a partnership with Wind River to advance network intelligence through flow classification DPI within the Wind River Intelligent Network Platform.
