TMCnet Network Management Week in Review

It was a fairly busy week in the network management space and there's a lot to cover, so let's get started!

Brocade was positioned in Gartner's (News - Alert) Visionaries quadrant in the 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Center Network Infrastructure report because of its unique and differentiated approach in its offerings to the data center infrastructure market. Based on the Brocade VDX switch family and VCS Fabric technology, Brocade's data center infrastructure solutions deliver the world's most automated, efficient and agile networks.

Next, ADTRAN reported that CT Communications was able to increase the throughput of its high-speed broadband services by over 30 times with the help of the ADTRAN (News - Alert) Total Access broadband platform. Indeed, Total Access 5000 helped CT Communications deliver a wide range of next-generation services, including IPTV (News - Alert) over copper and fiber infrastructures.

A carrier class multiservice access and aggregation platform, Total Access 5000/5006 MSAP bridges the gap between new and old networks with a pure Ethernet core capable of supporting legacy and emerging service interfaces. With this, CT Communications customers have reported download speeds upwards of 50Mbps over copper lines.

In other news, WebNMS showcased its M2M power grid monitoring solutions at Middle East Electricity 2013. The company's solutions range from an office suite similar to Microsoft Office to its WebNMS framework which is currently deployed at over 25,000 sites and by every Tier 1 carrier in the world.

Prabhu Ramachandran, director at WebNMS, said, "The Middle East is a very important market for us and the Middle East Electricity 2013 exhibition is an ideal platform for us to showcase our power grid monitoring solutions and M2M technologies to a niche focused audience.”

World Wide Technology (News - Alert) added the NetApp EF540 flash array to its enterprise storage portfolio this week in order to provide maximum efficiency, reliability and performance for its customers. The NetApp EF540 was specifically designed for transactional, database-driven applications in which responsiveness is critical, making it an excellent choice for latency-sensitive scenarios. While based on Flash, the EF450 manages to be unique to other flash systems, offering a consistent 300,000 I/Os per second and sub-second latency.

Lastly, ManageEngine (News - Alert) introduced the ServiceDesk Plus iPhone app meant to serve as an automated assistant to IT professionals. Boasting speech recognition capabilities, the app allows users to manage ServiceDesk from practically anywhere. Furthermore, it enables IT professionals to receive requests while on the go, increasing productivity.

The ServiceDesk Plus app also simplifies data and command entry, allowing users to perform tasks like editing, closing and relaying tickets completely with voice.

That's all for this week, but you can check out the Network Management Channel for more news in this sector!
